1. Overview and scope

Rentlyf is run by Techwara LLP ("Techwara", "we", "us" or "our"), an Indian limited liability partnership with its registered office in Belagavi, Karnataka. Rentlyf is software for paying-guest (PG) businesses and the people who live in them, and rentlyf.com is where people will find PGs with beds that are actually available.

This policy explains how we collect, use, store, share and protect personal data on rentlyf.com — when you join the waitlist, contact us, and, once they open, sign in, search for a PG, save a listing or send an enquiry. It follows India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000. For the data described here, Techwara is the data fiduciary.

Rentlyf's apps for property owners and tenants will be covered here before they open.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what each feature needs, and only when you use that feature.

A. Information you give us

  • Joining the waitlist: your name, mobile number and the cities you choose. If you join as a property owner, roughly how many tenants you manage.
  • Contacting us: your email address, the subject and your message — or, if you call or email us directly, what you tell us.
  • Signing in (once accounts open): your mobile number and email address, each confirmed with a one-time code, and your name. If you sign in with Google or Apple, the name and email address they share with us.
  • Saving a listing: the listings you save.
  • Sending an enquiry to a property: your confirmed mobile number, your preferred move-in date and your message.
  • Asking to be told when we cover an area: your email address and the area you searched.
  • Reporting a listing: what you tell us in the report.

B. Information collected automatically

  • Requests to our servers: our servers record which page or service was asked for. Your IP address is used for a short time to stop abuse, such as too many requests from one place, and a refused or suspicious request is recorded with the IP address it came from.
  • Your location, only if you allow it: when you ask to find PGs near you, your device's location is used once to centre the map. It is never stored.
  • Cookies: one cookie, set only when you sign in, keeps you signed in; and, only if you accept, Google Analytics' cookies count your visit. Our Cookie Policy explains both.
  • Visits, only if you agree: if you accept the banner at the bottom of the page, Google Analytics records which pages you read, roughly where you are, your device and browser, and which site or app sent you; and Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights count the pages visited and measure how quickly each loads, from the page's address, your browser and device type, your country and the site that sent you, without cookies. Nothing you type into a form or a search box is sent to either. If you decline, nothing is recorded, and you can change your choice with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.

We use no advertising or tracking tools on rentlyf.com.

3. Why we use your data

You give us your data for a stated purpose, and we use it only for that purpose:

  • to call you when Rentlyf launches in your city, if you joined the waitlist — never to send you text messages or marketing. You agree to this by joining, after the notice beside the button, and you can withdraw at any time;
  • to answer you when you contact us — your message is also emailed to our support team's inbox, so we see it quickly;
  • to sign you in and keep your account secure;
  • to pass your enquiry to the owner of the property you chose, so that they can contact you;
  • to email you when Rentlyf covers an area you asked about;
  • to review a listing someone has reported;
  • to see which pages help people, if you accepted analytics — counted visits, never what you typed;
  • to keep Rentlyf secure, stop abuse and fix faults;
  • to meet our legal obligations, such as answering a lawful request from an authority.

We never sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. We share it only as follows.

  • A property owner you send an enquiry to sees that enquiry: your mobile number, move-in date and message. An owner never sees your other enquiries, the listings you saved, or anything about you from elsewhere on Rentlyf. If you live at a property that uses Rentlyf, its owner cannot see that you are looking elsewhere.
  • Companies that run parts of the service for us, each only for its own job and bound to keep the data confidential:
  • Railway — hosting, our database and file storage
  • Cloudflare — delivering rentlyf.com quickly and protecting it from attack
  • Message Central — sending one-time sign-in codes by SMS
  • Resend — sending emails, such as a confirmation code or our reply to your message
  • Google — sign-in with Google, if you choose it, the property map, and Google Analytics, only if you accept it
  • Vercel — measuring visits and how quickly pages load, only if you accept it
  • Apple — sign-in with Apple, if you choose it
  • Our payment partner — taking property owners' subscription payments; it handles card, UPI and bank details, which Rentlyf never sees
  • Authorities, only where Indian law, a court order or a lawful request requires it.

5. How long we keep it, and how we protect it

How long we keep it

  • A waitlist entry: 18 months, or 7 days after we have called you, whichever comes first. It is then deleted automatically.
  • A request to be told when we cover an area: 7 days after we tell you, or 18 months, whichever comes first.
  • A request for a sign-in code: 8 days, to spot abuse, then deleted automatically. The code itself works only for a few minutes.
  • Visit data in Google Analytics, if you accepted it: 14 months, then deleted automatically.
  • Visit and speed data in Vercel's measurement, if you accepted it: a limited period, then deleted automatically.
  • Everything else — your account, messages, enquiries and saved listings — until you ask us to delete it, or delete your account.

How we protect it

  • Everything between you and rentlyf.com travels encrypted (HTTPS), and browsers are told to use nothing else.
  • Our pages tell browsers what they may not do with them — be framed by another site, load plugins, or send a form anywhere else — and limit the device features a page may ask for to your location.
  • Each business's data is kept apart from every other's by the database itself, not only by our code.
  • One-time sign-in codes are never stored as written; only a scrambled form is kept.
  • Files are encrypted where they are stored.
  • Only the people at Rentlyf who need your data can reach it, and every such access by our staff is recorded.
  • Requests are limited, so no one can pull large amounts of data or guess codes.

6. Your rights and choices

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask us to:

  • show you a summary of the personal data we hold about you, and who we have shared it with;
  • correct or update anything that is wrong or incomplete;
  • delete your data, including your waitlist entry;
  • withdraw your agreement to something you agreed to, as easily as you gave it — this stops future use, not use already made;
  • name someone to use these rights for you, if you cannot;
  • raise a grievance with our Grievance Officer (section 9).

To use any of these rights, email support@rentlyf.com from the address concerned, or call us. We will acknowledge your request within 48 hours and resolve it within the time the law allows.

About deleting an account:

  • Once your account is deleted, you lose access to its history.
  • While you are living in a property under a stay recorded on Rentlyf, your account can be deleted only after you move out.
  • When an account is deleted, your name, mobile number, email address and photo are erased wherever they appear. We keep only a scrambled code made from your mobile number, which cannot be turned back into the number, so that if the same number signs up again we know to ask our support team first.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

7. Children's privacy

rentlyf.com is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their details, write to us and we will delete them.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the law, Rentlyf or our service providers change. We will post every change on this page and update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use data you have already given us, we will tell you before it takes effect.

9. Grievance Officer and contact information
